Mistakes to Avoid When Ordering DTF Gang Sheets (and How We Help You Get It Right!)

If you’re ready to take your custom apparel to the next level with DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing, gang sheets are one of the most cost-effective and versatile ways to get started. But before you hit “order,” there are a few common mistakes that can derail your project. At Southeast Prints, we’ve seen it all—and we’re here to help you avoid these pitfalls so you get perfect results every time.

1️⃣ Using Low-Resolution Artwork

Your design might look great on a phone screen, but if the resolution isn’t high enough, it can print blurry or pixelated.

How to avoid it:

  • Make sure your artwork is at least 300 DPI.

  • Save files as PNGs with a transparent background whenever possible.

  • If you’re unsure, send it to us—we’ll check your file and let you know if it needs tweaking.

2️⃣ Forgetting About Sizing

It’s easy to misjudge the size of your designs when laying out your gang sheet. You don’t want a logo that’s too big for a hat or too small for the back of a hoodie.

How to avoid it:

  • Measure the placement area on your blank item before you size your artwork.

  • Use our sizing guides for shirts, totes, and more (we’ll send them if you need them!).

  • We can also help you adjust your gang sheet layout to fit your needs.

3️⃣ Overcrowding the Gang Sheet

It’s tempting to cram as many designs as possible onto a gang sheet, but overlapping or placing them too close together can make cutting and pressing tricky later.

How to avoid it:

  • Leave a little space (at least ¼ inch) between designs for easy trimming.

  • We’ll review your layout before printing and suggest adjustments if needed.

4️⃣ Choosing the Wrong Colors

DTF printing is vibrant and versatile, but if your artwork uses colors that don’t contrast well with your garment color, the design may not pop the way you want.

How to avoid it:

  • Consider the color of the fabric when designing (light vs. dark shirts).

  • Ask us for a free color consultation if you’re unsure how your design will look.

5️⃣ Not Knowing the Pressing Process

Even the best DTF transfers can fail if they’re not pressed correctly.

How to avoid it:

  • Follow time, temperature, and pressure settings carefully for long-lasting results.

  • If you’re new to heat pressing, let us know—we’ll walk you through it.
